Signs of Illness in Pets

When people are sick we can usually talk to our doctors and explain what ails us, but with our pets it takes a little bit of detective work to determine the nature of their illness.

The following are signs to watch for in your pets to help determine whether or not they are sick and what treatment is necessary:

• Head shaking, licking and scratching or biting of body parts
• Unusual discharge from the nose, eyes or other bodily openings
• Uncontrolled, difficult, or abnormal waste elimination
• Sudden viciousness or lethargy
• Limping, lumps or difficulty getting up or lying down
• Sudden weight loss or gain
• Excessive water consumption or loss of appetite
• Loss of hair, dandruff, open sores, ragged or dull coat
• Foul breath or excessive tartar on teeth
